FDA recalling products after 15 patients develop infections

Posted: Updated:

The Food and Drug Administration is recalling all products meant for sterile use from Specialty Compounding, a compounding pharmacy in Cedar Park, Texas.

The pharmacy is the most recent subject in a string of recalls by the FDA.

The recall stems from 15 people developing bloodstream infections after receiving infusions manufactured by Specialty Compounding.

The recalled product had been sent to patients nationwide, except for those in North Carolina. The product was also distributed to physicians' offices and hospitals in Texas.

Inspections of compounding pharmacies increased after 63 people were killed after developing meningitis from contaminated injections from a New England compounding center.
