BENTON COUNTY (KWWL) -
Three people are dead and two others arrested after a crash in Benton County Saturday night.
Valerie A. Schneiders, 22, Jason C. Bessert, 24, and Haley R. Bessert, 3, all of Cedar Rapids, died at the scene of the crash around 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Highway 30 at 16th Avenue, three miles south of Keystone.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office reports a GMC truck driven by Raul Salazar, Jr., 39, of Bushland, Texas, ran a stop sign and hit the Chevrolet Impala driven by Schneiders.
One passenger in Salazar's truck, Gabriel Hernandez, 39, of Dysart, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according tot he Benton County Sheriff's Office.
Salazar was arrested and charged with OWI, three counts of homicide by vehicle and preventing apprehension.
Another passenger in Salazar's truck, Rafael Moreno, 29, of San Fernando, Calif., was also arrested and charged with preventing apprehension.
