Lawyers warn: Write down your Powerball Pool rules

On Wednesday evening the Powerball Jackpot is at an estimated $425 million. Many have been purchasing tickets, while some places are even having pools. Pools where all winners will divide up the money that is one. But lawyers warn that's something to be careful about because their can be high risk if you are in a lottery pool for high rewards.

Randi Meyer is a Cashier at Oky Doky in Dubuque. She says she has been selling Powerball tickets all week.

"We have been crazy busy," she said. "Because it is so high we get people that are buying multiple tickets that would normally only buy one."

Along with individuals buying multiple tickets, Meyer says many have been purchasing tickets for a workers pool.

"We have a lot of co-worker pools," she said. "I had a women come in sometime last week, she picked up about $180 worth of tickets."

Chad Swanson is a Civil Litigation Lawyer. He says those pools can cause endless amounts of problems in terms of ownership of the ticket.

"Unfortunately, I think a large number of group players probably do not put their group rules in writing." Swanson said.

Swanson recommends groups that decide to pool cash together to purchase lotto tickets have everything in writing.

"I think a good idea would be know the rules, put them in writing and make sure that everyone is on the same page in terms of communication." Swanson said.
