Iowa City voters to decide on bar entry age

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City voters will get the chance to repeal the city's 21 and over ordinance in November. Tuesday the city council officially voted to put the ordinance on the ballot.

The ordinance requires people in bars be over the age of 21 after 10 p.m. Until 2010 you only had to be 19 to get in.

Some bar employees filed a petition against the law a few months ago. The city council was required to repeal the ordinance or put it to voters.

The city council also unanimously voted to support the ordinance as it currently stands.

The question will be on the ballot for the municipal elections on November 5, 2013.

This will be the third time Iowa City voters head to the ballots on the issue.
