Genes may impact sense of smell

Ever wonder why you sometimes can't stand the smell of certain foods? New research says it might be your genes.

A study in New Zealand tested 200 adults for their sense of smell, and took blood samples from each of them to analyze their genetic makeup.

Following the study, they found certain gene mutations led to an increased sensitivity to certain odors, including malt or beer, apples, blue cheese or violets.

Experts say this shows that each person has their own unique sense of smell, which leads to an individualized eating experience.
