9-year-old dies after falling under a mower

Posted: Updated:
GRANT COUNTY, Wis. (KWWL) -

A nine-year-old who fell under a mower is dead after a Monday accident in rural Fennimore, Wis.

The Grant County Sheriff’s office says the Derek Lendowsky, 9, was riding on a utility terrain vehicle (UTV), driven by Steve Lendowsky, 39, when the boy fell off.

Authorities say the UTV was pulling a brush hog mower, which ran over the boy.

An investigation found that two other children were on the back of the UTV when Derek stood up in the back of the vehicle to grab a walnut off a tree and lost balance.

Emergency crews responded, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
