UPDATE: Dubuque drowning victim identified

Posted: Updated:

Dubuque police have identified a man who drowned in the Mississippi River on Saturday.

Officers were called to Miller Riverview Park just before 3:30 p.m. Saturday for a report of a possible drowning.

Lieutenant Scott Baxter says that when officers arrived, 54-year-old Francis E. Cheety of Dubuque had already been pulled from the river by witnesses.

Baxter says efforts to revive Cheety were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at Finley Hospital.

No foul play is suspected. An autopsy will be performed by the State Medical Examiner.
