Eastern Iowans hit stores for Iowa sales tax holiday

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

All across eastern Iowa, many made their way to different clothing and shoe stores to stock up during Iowa's annual sales tax holiday this weekend. This is the 14th year Iowa has participated in the two day holiday which lasts the first Friday and Saturday in August. The holiday allows people to buy clothing and shoes with no state sales tax. No state sales tax means a boost in sales for many stores, especially at malls like Dubuque's Kennedy Mall. Rachel Arren is a Talent Resource Expert at J.C. Penney in Dubuque.

"We had lines all day yesterday," she said."We had every associate on board and everyone was pretty much at a register most of the day."

Shoppers have until midnight Saturday to take advantage of the sales tax holiday.
