Brooks McKowen introduced as Upper Iowa Basketball Coach

FAYETTE (KWWL) -

You could say Brooks McKowen was being groomed for this moment from the day he was born..

He first learned the game of basketball from his father Marty McKowen-- a 500 game winner at Wapsie Valley. Brooks was his dad's coach on the floor --setting a Iowa high school career record in scoring--while leading the Warriors to the State Championship game in 2003.

McKowen further honed his leadership skills as a four year starter at Northern Iowa--playing for Greg McDermott and Ben Jacobson. And now following assistant coaching jobs at Northern Iowa, DMAC and Division 2 Southwest Minnesota State--Brooks felt he was ready to lead his own program...and the one he has always had his eye on is Upper Iowa...just a half hour from his hometown of Fairbank.

Brooks' dad Marty McKowen and his brother Jon both graduated from Upper Iowa-- with Marty being inducted to the Peacock Athletic Hall-of Fame Last Fall. It took Upper Iowa Athletic Director David Miller a very short time to realize he had the right coach.

Because of his outstanding high school career--and his subsequent success at UNI... McKowen is hoops hero to many young Eastern Iowans--like some of the players on the Upper Iowa Basketball team
