Mount Vernon voters elect new councilwoman

MT. VERNON (KWWL) -

Voters in Mount Vernon headed to the polls Tuesday to elect a new city councilwoman.

Francesca Thompson won the seat, receiving just over 46 percent of the vote.

Her opponent, Michael Redenbaugh, received 13 percent of the vote. Write-in candidates received more than 40 percent.

Thompson will serve on the Mount Vernon City Council until 2015.

She takes Steve Maurice's seat. He resigned from the city council.
