A Waterloo man was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison on Tuesday for failing to update his sex offender registration.

Dana Curry, 41, pleaded guilty to one count of failing to register as a sex offender on March 25.

At his plea hearing, Curry admitted that he did not properly update his registration from June 2010 through November 28, 2012.

Curry, who was convicted in Arapahoe County, Colorado of one count of second degree sexual assault, was sentenced to three years and one month in prison and must serve eight years on supervised release.

According to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, Curry was convicted in April of 1995 of using a knife to commit a sexual assault on a female over the age of 18.
