Experts provide tips to stay safe on playgrounds

Posted: Updated:

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has some tips on keeping playgrounds safe for summertime fun.

The organization recommends that kids stay away from playgrounds with asphalt or concrete surfaces and metal or wooden swing sets.

The experts suggest that shock-absorbing rubber, sand or mulch are safer surfaces for kids.

Experts also say to watch for drawstrings and kids' jewelry, which could easily get caught on equipment.

And finally, experts caution against going down a slide with a baby in your lap, because their feet could easily get caught underneath.
