Terex cuts 54 workers from Waverly plant

Terex Corporation announced on Friday that they have cut 54 positions from their Waverly facility.

In a statement from Tom Gelston, Vice President of Investor Relations, Terex is cutting back to one production shift.

"Terex regrets the impact of the announced layoff has on our former team-members and their families," Gelston said in a written statement. "Unfortunately, as we scale back to one production shift a day, adjustments in the production manpower were needed to realign it with the softened demand environment we are experiencing today with our mobile crane products."

Employees impacted by the layoffs tell KWWL that the majority of the employees worked on the second shift.

Brent Matthias, Executive Director of Waverly Area Economic Development, says the city's website, www.waverlyia.com/careers, lists 27 job openings in manufacturing, eight in general labor and six in skilled trades.

Matthias says the City of Waverly and Waverly Area Economic Development will do everything they can to help them find job opportunities in the Waverly area.

Despite the layoffs at Terex, Matthias says Waverly continues to grow in housing, school enrollment and job growth.
