Iowa City couple arrested after leaving kids home alone to commit crimes

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An Iowa City couple faces charges after police say they left their children home alone while they attempted to burglarize another home.

Teryn Netz, 26, and Shane Wright, 24, were arrested Thursday night.

Wright is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and child endangerment. Netz is charged with child endangerment and several counts of theft and burglary.

Police believe Netz is responsible for other break-ins in Iowa City.

Police say they had a report of a woman trying to break into a home on Keokuk Street. There, they found Netz and Wright.

Police say Wright also had drug paraphernalia on him. Officer say Wright admitted to taking heroin. 

Iowa City police say they checked on the couple's home located on Arthur Street and found their children home alone.

The ages of the children are nine, eight and four.

Wright told officers that he left to walk Netz to work.
