1A State Softball: Dons fall to top ranked Akron-Westfield

The Don Bosco Softball team was back on the diamond --two days after its dramatic walkoff victory over Lynnville-Sully in the first round of the 1A state tournament.

Today the Dons seeking to make their first state championship game ever in any girls sports

--facing top ranked Akron-Westfield--a program that has won 5 state softball titles.

Don bosco's karli welter--who hit two homeruns including the game winner to beat Lynnville- Sully was strong on the mound --retiring the first five batters she faced... Welter held Akron-Westfield scoreless into the third inning.

But in a very tight game--one play in the third would be the difference --with two on and one out--Akron-Westfield's Kortney Hedlund grounds to second--Brittany Hickson makes the tag and throws to first for the double play--but the Dons'  Olivia Rigdon drops the ball---before throwing home---Don Bosco catcher Cate Paulsen is in position to get the out--but she loses the ball--allowing Desi Oltmans to scores --after a little discussion the run is upheld-- and it turns out to be the enough for Akron-Westfield as pitcher Kayla Tindell fires a one-hitter.

Don Bosco loses a heartbreaker 1-0.
