Waterloo woman guilty of distributing heroin

A Waterloo woman was convicted of conspiracy to distribute more than 1,000 grams of heroin in federal court Wednesday.

April Tillman, 47, of Waterloo, was convicted of the federal charge after a three-day jury trial in Cedar Rapids.

She faces a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and could face a life sentence. She also faces fines that could reach $20 million.

Tillman was convicted of being involved with a conspiracy to obtain heroin from Chicago and distribute it in Waterloo from January of 2007 until August of 2012.

Her case was investigated by the Cedar Rapids Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force, Tri-County Drug Task Force, Homeland Security, the IRS and the FBI.
