IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A North Liberty man faces an assault charge after police say he pushed a one-legged man off his mobility device on Tuesday night in Iowa City.

Police say Jerald Thomas Navarre, 36, allegedly pushed a one-legged man off his wheeled mobility device.

Police say the unidentified victim then fell into the street, scraping his left elbow and the remaining part of his right leg.

The incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday near 101 South Dubuque Street.

Police say witnesses reported that Navarre then stood over the man, grabbed his face and was disrespectful. Witnesses also say Navarre was "extremely hostile" to the victim and witnesses.

They say Navarre yelled and screamed toward them as he was being arrested.

Navarre is charged with assault causing bodily injury.
