Cedar Rapids asking for input on Jones Golf Course

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

An 18-hole golf course in Cedar Rapids may permanently become a 9-hole course. The city's Parks and Recreation Department held two open houses Wednesday to discuss the future of Jones Golf Course. The course was turned into 18-holes in 2001. Since then, the back nine have flooded nineteen times. The city wants to turn some of those into instructional holes.

"Conditions have changed, especially after the 2008 flood and ideas about really what's responsible is really what's come up," said Sven Leff, Director of Parks and Recreation. "So there's no regrets about having done this."

Repairing the course from this spring's flooding would cost more than $30,000. Converting the course would cost just under $12,000.

The city is still taking feedback. To submit a comment, click here.
