Fairfax man injured after falling asleep at the wheel

Posted: Updated:

The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office says a Fairfax man was injured Wednesday morning after falling asleep while behind the wheel of his pick-up truck.

Deputies were called to mile marker 63.20 on northbound I-380 at about 8:18 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a rollover accident.

Capt. Rick Abben says Thomas Heefner, 40, of Fairfax was head north on the interstate when he fell asleep and lost control of his pick-up truck.

The truck flipped over in the median and came to rest in the southbound lanes.

Abben says Heefner received numerous cuts due to broken glass and was taken to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

Abben says the truck was totaled in the accident.

Heefner was cited with failure to have control of his vehicle.
