3A Substate Baseball: Waverly-Shell Rock falls to Clear Lake

In Class 3A, Waverly-Shell Rock hosts Clear Lake in a sub-state semifinal game with the winner advancing to meet Decorah in the sub-state final Wednesday night. 

Clear Lake gets runners on first and second with just one out in the second inning, but the Go-Hawks' Dan Stensland strikes out the last two batters of the inning, to keep this game scoreless.

Waverly-Shell rock finally gets things rolling in the third sophomore Jake Velky with a shot deep to the fence in centerfield Velky showed his speed with the standup triple.

Another Go-Hawk sophomore Sam Broome with a hard shot that gets by the Clear Lake third baseman. Velky scores to make it 1-0.

Sky Holmgren hits another ground ball to third, gets Sam Broome home, Waverly-Shell Rock leads 2-0.

Before the inning is over Sam Reihr with a single to right, brings home holmgren. Waverly-Shell Rock built a 4-0 lead, but Clear Lake rallies to win 8-6 in nine innings.
