Shrine Bowl players visit Lost Island

Coaches and players from the Iowa Shrine Bowl cooled off today with a visit to Lost Island Water park in Waterloo.

The game brings together 92 players from more than 90 communities across the state, all in an effort to raise money for Shriner’s hospitals.

To date, they've raised $2.2 million.

Coach Mike Dirksen of Mason City coaches the Shrine Bowl North team. He said the water park trip is about building relationships.

“You learn more about people when you’re with them in different environments,” he said. “…being together in a different environment and allowing [players] to be themselves. So it's going to be fun and we're looking forward to the evening."
