Keast to run for District 95 seat

Posted: Updated:

Kristi Keast announced on Tuesday that she will run for the Iowa House of Representatives in District 95, which covers part of Buchanan County and most of Linn County, except Cedar Rapids and Marion.

Keast, a music teacher at Washington Elementary School in Mount Vernon, says it's time for new leadership that work together to move the state forward.

"It's time for us to build an economy that works for the middle class," Keast said in a written statement. "As an educator, I've spent my life working with kids to build our skilled workforce and prepare them for the jobs of the twenty-first century. We must do more to help each child be successful."

Keast, a Democrat, has taught in both public and parochial schools for nearly 30 years. She graduated from Westmar College in Le Mars and earned her master's degree in music education from the University of Iowa.

Keast grew up in southwest Iowa and has three grown children and four grandchildren.
