Town of Independence remembers Jaileigh Posey

Posted: Updated:

Donations have been pouring into local businesses in Independence in an effort to support the Posey family.

Jaileigh Posey is the seven-year-old girl who died in an apartment fire in late June.

Signs and More is one business housing donations. Store Owner Amanda Coonrad said they've been getting donations of clothes, toys, toiletries and even furniture.

The Independence Fire Department said it's astonished by the amount of community support for the Poseys. People in Independence and all over Iowa have reached out to help the family.

"We have a lady from Buloyd, IA making quilts for the family, it's been fantastic, from Ryan, IA a lady brought bedroom furniture and stuff so it just hasn't been local," said Charles Conklin with Independence Fire.

People that were close to Jaleigh say she brightened everyone's day and never wore a frown.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10:30 at Reiff Funeral Home in Independence.

According to the Independence Fire Department, the other children in the Posey family that were in the fire are in stable conditions. Father Steven Posey was supposed to be released from the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Sunday, but there is no confirmation yet.
