CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A detached garage is destroyed after a fire in Cedar Rapids Saturday morning.

It happened at 4:36 a.m. at 1219 5th Avenue Southeast.  Firefighters said the fire threatened nearby residences and other detached garages.

As firefighters arrived on scene, they found a neighbor using a garden hose to try to keep the fire from spreading.

The garage was destroyed. There were tools and garden equipment inside the garage, as well as several tires which caused several explosion sounds as they burned.

The detached garage is owned by Donna Tjaden, age 51, and Willie Jones, Jr., age 55.

Siding was melted on two adjacent detached garages near the alley in the 1200 block between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue Southeast.

The cause of the fire to the one-stall garage where the fire appears to have started is under investigation.
