Authorities talk about prostitution sting

Police have arrested five people on prostitution and pimping charges in Johnson County.

The two-day sting in the town of Hills uncovered a prostitution ring involving a 15 year-old-girl.

Residents of Hills, which has a population of about 800 people, were surprised to learn police chose their town to conduct the latest prostitution sting.

"It's just a quiet, little town, and you don't' expect something like that here," said John Hoewing, who works there.

It's something the five alleged prostitutes and pimps, who were arrested Wednesday and Thursday, didn't see coming either.

"We're not going to use the same location every single time," said Johnson County Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek.

After a large bust last year that resulted in the arrests of 17 people in Coralville, the Johnson County Sheriff's department is reporting another success.

"Law enforcement agencies have said we are going to use some of our resources and put them toward these projects," Pulkrabek said.

Police documents report multiple meetings were set up on a prostitution web site.

Among those arrested Robert Jackson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who police say drove two women and a fifteen year-old-girl from Milwaukee to Hills as part of the sex arrangement.

Police say they have been targeting these prostitution rings because often times they involve the trafficking of minors.

"If we can save one child that's been forced into this, we call it a success," Pulkrabek said.

The investigation continues.  More charges are likely pending.
