When the International Olympic Committee announced it was dropping wrestling in February, the outcry was immediate. Wrestling fans pulled together to save the sport and it looks like the efforts have paid off.

1972 Olympic gold medalist and former Iowa Hawkeye coaching legend Dan Gable was at Scheel's in Sioux City, signing autographs for fans who waited up to 30 minutes to see him.

A vote is coming from the IOC in September, and wrestling is expected to be re-instated to the Olympic schedule.

Gable says that's encouraging but the fight isn't over.

"The problem is, this should have been preventable and we should have never have been here. Now we are doing things way better then we've ever done before so it's been kind of a kick in the butt for us and it's got us doing things we should have been doing before," said Gable.

Gable was a two-time NCAA champion at Iowa State and won 16 NCAA titles with the Hawkeyes.
