Officials are searching for anyone with information about a vehicle they say caused a deputy's patrol vehicle to end up in a roadside ditch.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office said they are looking for an unidentified vehicle that would have been driving northbound on Highway 187 just north of Highway 3 at around 10:40 p.m. Monday.

Officials gave no identifying information about the vehicle itself.

A deputy was apparently on patrol going southbound on Highway 187 just north of Highway 3 when the vehicle heading northbound crossed completely into the southbound lane, according to the sheriff's office.

The action caused the deputy, who was not identified, to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The deputy ended up in the east ditch.

The vehicle then made a U-turn, drove past the patrol car in the ditch and went southbound on Highway 187.

The patrol car sustained $7500 in damage. The deputy was uninjured.

The incident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
