New field turf installed at Nebraska

New field turf has been installed at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium. New field turf has been installed at Nebraska's Memorial Stadium.

The Nebraska football team has played on artificial turf since 1970. Every seven or eight years the turf has been replaced and it's that time again.

A new system using nine tons of cork bits instead of tire pellets for the top layer should cool down the surface "up to 30 degrees" on hot days.

For the first time since 1998, "Tom Osborne Field" will be seen on both sidelines of the field. In '99, Osborne asked for his name to be removed, because he thought it wasn't fair to then-coach Frank Solich.

The $65-million East Stadium project is nearly done. Six-thousand seats have been added, pushing the capacity to 92-thousand.

The Huskers open the season August 31st against Wymoing.
