SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KTIV) -

Sgt. Bluff-Luton junior pitcher Bryce Hanson set a school record with 20 strikeouts in a 3-1 win over Spencer on Wednesday night. Hanson only gave up one hit in the seven inning contest. The only out that Spencer made that wasn't a strikeout was a ground out in the third inning.

Hanson, a left-hander, struck out the side in the first and second innings. After getting a ground out to start the third, he recorded the last 14 outs by strikeout. Hanson is just the 20th pitcher in Iowa history to record at least 20 K's in a seven inning game. The state record is 23 strikeouts, because of dropped third strikes which still count.

The Warriors scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning. Ryan Admire's single brought home Spencer Wyant to make it 1-0. Connor Schlotfeldt's sacrifice fly increased the lead to 2-0. Hanson then singled to bring home Admire with SBL's final run.

Sgt. Bluff-Luton (20-14) will start Class 3A district play on Friday against Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley at 5 o'clock in Le Mars. Spencer (13-16) will play ninth ranked Storm Lake on Friday in Spencer at 7:00 PM in district 2.
