Study: Dementia cases dropping

A study of older adults in England finds that dementia cases are dropping.

Researchers at the Cambridge Institute of Public Health randomly tested thousands of adults for symptoms of dementia between 1984 and 1994. They then tested another group between 2008 and 2011.

According to their findings, the cases dropped 25 percent over that time.

Outside experts say dementia is less common among people who are well educated and have good heart health, so if people continue to stay in school and keep blood pressure and cholesterol under control, rates should continue to go down.

Researchers say other high-income countries, like the United States, should experience a drop in cases similar to those found in England.
