NewBo Market hosting first beer and BBQ event

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Beer and barbeque lovers, get ready: The NewBo City Market in Cedar Rapids is getting ready to host their first annual BBQ & Brew event on Saturday.

The event, which is meant to be a celebration of Iowa-produced barbeque dishes and home-brewed beer, will feature both American and international styles of barbecue along with home-brewed beer makers from across the state.

Local food critics will determine the "NewBo BBQ Boss" and "NewBo Brew Boss." There will also be a "peoples' choice" contest for the home-brewed beer.

Ten Iowa-based barbecue producers, ten home brewers and three micro breweries are scheduled to attend.

Beer tasting tickets are $25 and are available at www.newbocitymarket.com and on the day of event, if available.

Two local bands, Betty Calling and The Significance of Simon, will play on the outdoor stage from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

NewBo City Market is located at the intersection 12th Avenue and 3rd Street SE in the heart of the New Bohemia cultural district.
