Cedar Rapids sets urban deer hunt dates for 2013-14 season

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The City of Cedar Rapids has set the dates for the 2013-14 urban deer hunt.

According to Greg Buelow, Special Projects Coordinator for the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, the hunt will be held from September 14, 2013 through January 19, 2014.

Buelow says the program manager will only issue hunting permits for the hunt after the following requirements are met:

• Attendance at an eight-hour Iowa Bow Hunter's Safety Course. (One-time only)

• Completion of an Urban Deer Management application available at Gander Mountain, Palo Outdoors, Affinity Archery, or on the Fire Department's Website.

• Complete an annual proficiency certification test at Palo Outdoors, 1204 1st Street, Palo or Affinity Archery, 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids. The proficiency test should be completed prior to the orientation session.

• Mandatory attendance at the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations Class (only one class required) at Palo Outdoors, 1204 1st Street, Palo or Affinity Archery, 711 Center Point Road NE, Cedar Rapids.

Dates for the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations Class are:

? Monday, August 19th – 6:00-7:30 PM – Palo Outdoors

? Saturday, August 24th – 9:00-10:30 AM – Affinity Archery

? Wednesday, September 4th – 6:00-7:30 PM – Palo Outdoors

? Wednesday, September 11th – 6:00-7:30 PM – Affinity Archery

The permits will be issued at the end of the Urban Deer Hunt Rules and Regulations class, provided all requirements have been met.
