WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -

An Iowa couple was honored with the 5,000th Point of Light award Monday at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Floyd Hammer and Kathy Hamilton were presented the award by both President Obama and former President George H. W. Bush, who began the Point of Light award.

Hammer and Hamilton started Outreach, a program that provides meals to children in more than 15 countries, in 2004 following a trip to Tanzania.

Since the founding, Outreach has provided more than 200 million meals.

"Each Labor Day, volunteers all over Iowa help pack four million meals," Hamilton said in her speech at the event. "And in the U.S. and Canada, tens of thousands of volunteers of all ages and nationalities have so far helped us to pack a total of 232 million meals."
