WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Eastern Iowa Boy Scouts are on their way to West Virginia for the annual Boy Scout Jamboree.

Eighty-seven Scouts from the Cedar Valley area packed their gear onto buses and left Waterloo around 3 p.m. Monday as family members looked on.

They will spend 10 days at the Jamboree taking part in a number of activities and a service day working in the community.

Scout masters say the skills learned at the Jamboree help prepare the Scouts for life.

"They form new units, new patrols," said Chris Klaren, committee chairman of the Boy Scout Jamboree. "It gives them leadership skills, it gives them skills for actually preparing for things and actually preparing for life."

This year, local Boy Scouts are commemorating the five Sullivan brothers from Waterloo.
