Final day for longtime Waterloo bakery

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

On Sunday, a longtime bakery in Waterloo closed its doors after 63 years in business.

Johnson's Bakery is a family owned bakery. The owners announced a couple of weeks ago Sunday would be the last day.

The bakery opened at 6 a.m., but many customers came early to get a final pastry, bread, or baked good. By mid-morning, most items had already been sold.

"They let you in, whenever you wanted to come in if you wanted to come in at 3 o'clock in the morning you could come in 3 o'clock in the morning. And get a donut or a roll and now they're open, were open 7 days a week so you could always get something, just great people," said longtime employee Bobbi Schaffnit.

In addition to the bakery, Johnson's also provided bread and baked goods for several stores and restaurants in the cedar valley.
