WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Cedar Valley residents are invited to the fourth public launch of Walking Moai teams on Tuesday, July 16 at Lafayette Park in downtown Waterloo.

Sponsored by the Waterloo Blue Zones Project, the event will run from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The event will feature a family friendly carnival theme including games, bouncy houses and prizes for kids. In addition the East High basketball team will be running drills and Waterloo Fire Rescue will have a fire truck on display for children to see and take pictures with.

New for this launch is a walking team competition. Community members interested in participating can come to Lafayette Park with their existing team, create a team that evening or join a team. The top 3 teams that walk the most amount of time (not distance) together by September 24th will win prizes.

Teams of four to eight people must sign-up with Blue Zones Project volunteers during the event to be considered a part of the competition.

Teams are encouraged to walk throughout the community to points of interest and build friendships while tracking their steps and time together.
