Golfers pitch in for Camp Albrecht Acres' biggest annual fundraiser

Posted: Updated:

Dozens of golfers swarmed Timberline Golf Course Thursday in Dubuque County, outside Peosta, for Camp Albrecht Acres' biggest annual fundraiser.

The golf outing is in its 16th year and raises tens of thousands of dollars for the camp, annually.

Camp Albrecht Acres, located in Dubuque County just outside Sherrill, serves people of all ages with special needs. Much of the money from the golf outing helps fund a week at camp for people who couldn't otherwise afford it.

Event organizer Chuck Spielman has been working in some capacity with the camp since it opened in the 70s.

"If the parents don't have the money or whatever, the camp picks it up," he said. "We've been known that we will not turn anyone away."

Every year, Camp Albrecht Acres serves between 600 and 800 people with special needs.
