Two-cylinder expo to showcase vintage John Deere tractors

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Two-Cylinder Club's 23rd Exposition kicks off Thursday at the National Cattle Congress.

More than 245 people registered to show off their vintage John Deere collections. There are tractors and other equipment from almost every decade, one of the oldest pieces being from the 1920s.

Exhibitor Paul Olson from Webster City has three John Deere pieces - a 730, a six bottom plow and an 830, his pride and joy. Olson bought the 1959 830 from a seller in Michigan and spent two years restoring it.

Staff member Dan Miller said the expo brings exhibitors and spectators from all over Iowa and across the U.S. There are tractors and trucks from states including Nebraska, Missouri, Ohio and Colorado.

"It's what they do. Some people hunt, some people fish, a lot of these people collect and restore John Deere tractors," Miller said.

This is the twelfth year for Waterloo to hold the expo, and it has been at the National Cattle Congress grounds since 2007.

The expo is open to the public Thursday from 10 am to 6 pm, Friday from 8 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 2 pm. Visitors will be able to watch as a two-cylinder tractor is being completely assembled. There will also be an auction of equipment and parts starting at 8:30 am Saturday.

Admission is five dollars for adults and children twelve or younger with an adult are free. Current and retired John Deere employees also receive free admission.
