The Iowa Veterans Home is getting a new transportation facility thanks to a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs and state funds.
Iowa Veterans Home Commandant David Worley says that a $529,584 grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs will pay for part of the $930,000 project to update the home's generators and to build a new transportation facility. Thirty-five percent of the project is funded with money through the state, and 65 percent of funds are federal.
The generators have already been updated to meet the Environmental Protection Agency's latest standards, but the transportation facility is still in the works. This new building will house the Iowa State Veterans Home buses and vans. It also includes an "environmentally sound" drainage system.
