Iowa City asking for volunteers to help remove sand from sandbags
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
With conditions stabilizing after June's flooding, the City of Iowa City is asking for volunteers to help empty sandbags.
The sand will be used for winter pubic works projects.
The city recently collected the sandbags from businesses and homes threatened by flooding.
Volunteers are asked to check in at the Streets Complex at 3800 Napoleon Lane to assist any time Thursday July 11 through Saturday July 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes.
Volunteers must be 14 years or older to participate. Those under 18 must have a parent sign a liability waiver. Contact Carol Sweeting at 319-541-2385 with questions or if you have a large group of volunteers to register.
