Iowa City residents can meet new Fire Chief Candidates Thursday

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa City residents have a chance to meet the candidates for Iowa City Fire Chief. The city will hold interviews with the five candidates Thursday, then will hold a public meet and greet in the evening. The meet and greet will be from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Assembly Room at the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, located at 28 S. Linn Street.

Residents are encouraged to share their input. Comment cards will be provided at the event.

Chief Andy Rocca retired in May after 35 years with the department.

Three of the candidates are internal. One of the external candidates is from Eastern Iowa. The final candidate is from Indiana.

The candidates are:

  • John Grier, Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal of the Iowa City Fire Department
  • Greg Main, District Chief of the Evansville Fire Department (IN)
  • Eric Nurnberg, Captain of the Iowa City Fire Department
  • Brian Platz, Battalion Chief of the Iowa City Fire Department
  • John-Paul Schilling, Chief of the Cedar Falls Fire Department
