FT. MADISON (KWWL) -
Monday morning, a Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) member was injured while stopping several "fights and assaults" at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison. The facility was placed on restricted movement as a result.
The officer received a puncture wound in his right hand. The cause of this puncture is unknown. He was treated at Fort Madison Community Hospital.
Eight offenders were involved.
The incidents took place during a program that prepares offenders for life in the general prison population after being segregated.
The investigation is active, according to Fred Scaletta of the Department of Corrections.
