WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man says he was mugged in the parking lot of the Long John Silvers restaurant on Sunday night.

Police were called to 2775 Crossroads Boulevard around 11:40 Sunday night for a report of a robbery.

Police say the victim, 18-year-old Derrick Olmstead, told officers that he was getting into his car in the parking lot when two men approached him and demanded money. Olmstead says one man had a handgun.

Police say the men assaulted Olmstead and took off with his cell phone and cigarettes.

The suspects are described as a white and black male, both wearing ski masks.

Olmstead was taken to Covenant Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries.
