Iowa City Police Department investigating robbery

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Several people were arrested in Iowa City after a report of a robbery. The Iowa City Police Department said it happened just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, July 6th in the 600 block of E. Bloomington Street.

Officers found two males who had multiple injuries to their heads and face. According to the victims, they were walking toward home when five people approached them, confronted them, and then attacked them by hitting them over the heads with a large liquor bottle and proceeding to hit and kick them. The victims reported that some of the people involved then stole personal belongings including money.

Officers then found three people matching the descriptions of the suspects. All three were positively identified by the victims as being part of the group and they were detained. Both victims were then taken to the hospital for injuries.

Officers knew there were two more males involved in this incident and they searched the area and located the suspect's car. Surveillance was set up and the two suspects later reappeared. When officers approached the suspects, both ran away but were caught.

An investigation determined two of the males were primarily responsible for the robbery. One of those males is 17 years old and his name will not be released at this time. The other male was identified as Quran Rahmel Holt.

Both subjects were charged with the following:

• Robbery - 1st Degree (Class B Felony)

• Willful Injury (Class D Felony)

• Rioting (Aggravated Misdemeanor)

• Interference with Official Acts (Serious Misdemeanor)

• Public Intoxication (Simple Misdemeanor) (Juvenile only)

• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Simple Misdemeanor) (Holt only)

A third male was identified as Keeynan D. S. Williams. He was arrested and charged with Interference with Official Acts. The other two people involved were released without charges at this time.

This incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.
