CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The city of Cedar Rapids celebrated its 50th downtown farmers market Saturday morning.

The very popular downtown farmers market started eight years ago in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Along with locally grown produce, shoppers can choose homemade goods and arts and crafts.

It's also a way for local businesses to find new customers.

"It's great for the vendors its something to concentrate on one of our core central districts in Cedar Rapids it just brings people downtown, they might see business that exist downtown that they don't normally see because they don't have any reason to come downtown," said Pam Hinman of the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance

Hinman says about 18,000 people turned out.  The next downtown farmers market is July 20th.
