Athlete of the Week: Kim Wedeking Clarksville

Posted: Updated:

Senior pitcher Kimberly Wedeking's led this Clarksville softball team on one of the best season's in school history --

Coach "Beginning of the year, she was really good, then halfway through the season, I think she just caught her groove, and she's just been phenomenal as of late."

At the plate -- Kimberly's hitting at above a 400 clip with a couple of home runs --

but she's done her real damage on the mound going 18 and 2 on the season -- with over 200 strikeouts -- more than double than anyone else in the Iowa Star Conference --

Coach: "She had 2 perfect games in one week, one game, the perfect game, she strauck out all 15 batters she faced.  I've never seen that personally."

Kimberly doesn't take all the credit herself -- she learned to throw from her dad who plays in men's fast-pitch league's --plus -- the confidence she has in senior catcher Megan Backer has allowed her to relax more on the mound

Kimberly: "I have 100% trust in her.  It gives me a lot of confidence as a pitcher."

Coach: "Kimberly has the confidence to throw the ball anywhere, and she knows Megan's going to catch it."

Megan: "We click pretty well together.  When we're out there, we're just a solid team, when I'm back there catching for her, it feels pretty amazing to watch her, because I get the front view."

So far this season, the Indians have already clinched the Iowa Star conference title -- but the goal won't be complete unless they reach the state tournament in Fort Dodge, something that's only happened one other time in school history.

Kimberly: "It would mean a lot.  It takes our bats to get going and we've got to keep playing like we have been, and I think we can make it there."
