IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The University of Iowa held a ceremony Saturday celebrating a bright future for a building.

Hancher Auditorium was heavily damaged during the Floods of 2008.  Saturday, people came to the original building to honor the past and the future facilities.

A drum and rhythm group preformed in between readings on the historic building which brings music and cultural events from all over the world to Iowa City.

"Hancher brings the world to the community.  I think people learn so much about the world, about other places than Iowa, other places than the Midwest.  I think it's such a good gathering place.," said Chuck Swanson. executive director of Hancher Auditorium.

Officials say they hope to open their first season at the new Hancher building in the fall of 2016.
