DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The U.S. Post Office held an installation ceremony for Dubuque's first-ever female postmaster.

Becky Burbach has served with the US Post Office for 22 years throughout southwest Wisconsin.

While she has technically been serving as Dubuque's officer-in-charge since October, Thursday marked her official installation as postmaster.

"I've had a dream to be here in Dubuque," Burbach said Thursday after her ceremony. "I've been in Wisconsin and went to various offices of different responsibility and levels of office in order to work towards this goal to be here and serve the community and the city of Dubuque and the surrounding areas."

Burbach is Dubuque's 19th postmaster, a succession stretching back to 1833.

In the Dubuque area there are two postal stations with more than 115 employees and nearly 40,000 customers.
