DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The rising levels of the Mississippi River is forcing a Dubuque campground to close for the 4th of July. Miller-Riverview Park will not be open for the 4th of July holiday as the Mississippi River will peak Thursday at approximately 20.7 feet.

Officials say it will take several days for the river levels to go down, and then take several more for the area to dry out before cleanup begins. All campers with 4th of July reservations at Miller-Riverview Park will be sent refund checks in the mail within the next two weeks.

Along with the campground being closed, the Kids' Fishing Clinic and Derby scheduled for Saturday, June 29th at the park has also been canceled.

The opening date for the Miller-Riverview Campground has been delayed until further notice.
