LOWDEN (KWWL) -

More heavy rains overnight caused many problems in Cedar County Monday.

In Lowden, the fire department had to use boats to rescue people from four homes and out of one car.

Firefighters say the water moved in too quickly to ask people to evacuate their homes. One of the people rescued by boat was a trained weather spotter.

"They always talk about the flood of 1994, but this one surpassed that," said Steve Gottschalk, a weather spotter rescued by boat. "This is probably the all-time flood -- biggest flood Lowden's ever had."

Alliant Energy shut off utilities to multiple homes in Lowden.

According to emergency management officials, Lowden was the hardest-hit town in Cedar County.
